The iconic Vespa scooter has been manufactured by Italian company Piaggio since 1946. The Corradino D`Ascanio-designed scooter has proved to be an extremely affordable and comfortable means of transport. The Vespa also quickly gained popularity abroad. The Vespa (which is the Italian word for “wasp”) owes its name to its streamlined lines, wide rear wheel arch and slender waist. Today it is one of the main icons of Italian lifestyle. Poland produced its own Vespa-inspired scooter called WFM Osa in the 1960s.
